Treasure Island - What an Adventure!!!

Oooooo arrrrrr... today was the day... Quail Island here we come!
The bus ride to Lyttleton was super fun - especially the tunnel!

Is this our ferry?

Hmmm...maybe this one!

Ahoy sailors...boy is this ride bumpy!

We walked and we walked and we walked...

We looked at treasure maps and guess what we found... Buried treasure!!!!

One of our highlights...the giant hill to slide down...sorry parents about the washing:)

After all that walking and digging for treasure, it was time for a pirate feast!

Who are these tricky rascals and what yarns are they spinning?

Captain Hook from the Black Cat captured one of our crew!  Don't worry...we got her back!

What an adventure... it was a quiet trip home!

What an awesome day sailing to Treasure Island!  Many thanks to our wonderful Mums and Dads for coming along and joining in on the fun!!!

Writing Our Stories Week With Hermione

Hermione visited us to tell us pirate stories.  She didn't have pictures to go with her story - we had to use our imaginations and make the pictures in our heads!

We got to act out Hermione's story

Here we are putting on our coats...

We got to draw our own pictures for a pirate story that was still in our heads!

It took lots of thinking... what will happen next..?

Wow - now we're ready to tell our pirate stories...arrrr!

Ooooo - please can I share my story with the class?

Once upon a time..........arrrrrr!  Thanks Hermione!

Canterbury Cricket

Last week Canterbury Cricket Coaches came to school to teach us small ball skills...

We learned to bowl

And field...

When the coaches were showing us new skills, we stayed very still and listened to the instructions.

It was tricky watching where our balls landed.

We even got to have some target practice!

It was heaps of fun!  Thanks Canterbury Cricket

Pirates A-Hoy! Maunga Crew Needs a Captain!

The pirate crew from Maunga were on a mission on Wednesday.  They had been too long without a leader, so they decided to capture Mr Hogan to be their Captain.  It was dangerous but the crew was fearless and cunning as they battled Mrs Beattie and Mrs Thornley for the prize of Mr Hogan, their future pirate leader...

On a mission to find a new Captain for the Maunga crew.

By hook or by crook, we'll find us a Captain - aaaarrrrrrr.

Look out Mrs Beattie - hand 'em over.

You'll come with us now or be fed to the crocodiles!

Mr Hogan has been taken captive.  Back to our maties we shall take 'em.

Mr Hogan looked so worried - what did the Maunga Crew want?  What were they going to do with him?

"Mr Hogan, we need a Captain - someone to lead our fearsome Maunga Crew.  Come aboard and sail the seven seas."

But Mr Hogan said he didn't want to be a Pirate Captain.  He wants to be a Prince!
Aaaarrrrr - a Prince?
How will we persuade Mr Hogan that the pirate life is for him?

First Mate Leah

Gunner Paddy

Quatermaster Alyssa

Blackbeard Cooper

Buccaneer Mia
We await to see if our persuasive letters convince Mr Hogan that the pirate life with Maunga Crew is for him...

Aaar - A-hoy Me Hearties

It was all about Pirates at Discovery Time today...
We designed our very own pirate ships to sail the fierce seas

Look at those sails and portholes...

Who can climb the rigging?

Hoist the flag so Jolly Roger can fly high!

Pirates can can swing on the ropes to capture other ships

There she goes Captain...
We are having such an awe-filled time in Maunga block!
